Art in France, 1885-1960
January 5, 2002 through April 5, 2006
The popular term "School of Paris" has long obscured the diversity of styles and nationalities that went into the making of modern art in France. This installation features important paintings in the permanent collection, from recent acquisitions by Dubuffet and Braque to lesser-known masterpieces by Soutine and Kupka, together with sculptures by Rodin and Brancusi. Other artists represented in the exhibition include Léger, Matisse, Cézanne, Picasso, Severini, and Bonnard. Special attention will be given to post-World War II paintings by Soulages, Fautrier, Lanskoy, and Poliakoff. Organized by Harry Cooper, associate curator of Modern Art. |
