This exhibition presents 25 paintings in a double mini-retrospective of two artists who worked in styles that were variants of realism. Gregory and Frances Gillespie met at art school in New York and were married from 1959 to 1983. As students, and during their years in Italy, they concentrated on abstract expressionism while pursuing a style inspired by the Flemish and Italian masters of the Renaissance.

Frances Gillespie is represented by eight paintings, including a self-portrait and several floral compositions. Gregory Gillespie is represented by paintings ranging across the whole of his career, including a still life, and several self-portraits. A fully illustrated catalogue has been produced in conjunction with the exhibition. It includes essays, entries from the journals of Gregory Gillespie, and letters written by Frances Gillespie.
