Investigating the Renaissance
November 1, 1996 through June 30, 2008
The Fogg Art Museum has one of the foremost collections of early Italian Renaissance paintings in North America. This installation looks at the making of Renaissance paintings and explores the connections between different regional schools and the ties between Italy and countries north of the Alps. The core of the Fogg’s Sienese and Florentine 14th- and 15th-century paintings is complemented by strong examples of other Italian, Netherlandish, and German paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts. Artists represented include Taddeo Gaddi, Fra Angelico, Giovanni di Paolo, Fra Filippo Lippi, Sandro Botticelli, Dirk Bouts, and Joos van Cleve. Organized by Ivan Gaskell, Margaret S. Winthrop Curator, with assistance from Sarah Kianovsky, assistant curator; Ron Spronk, former research curator; and Stephan Wolohojian, Landon and Lavinia Clay Curator, Department of Painting, Sculpture, and Decorative Art. Funding was provided by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. |
