At The Arthur M. Sackler Museum (more about the Sackler)

Chen Qikuan (Chinese, b. 1921), Interplay (detail), 1986. Hanging scroll; ink and colors on paper, with signature of the artist reading "Chen Qikuan zuo;" 186.1 x 30.2 cm. Arthur M. Sackler Museum, Gift of Robert Rosenkranz, Law School Class of 1965, 2005.205. Photo: Photographic Services © President and Fellows of Harvard College.

With this reinstallation, the Sackler closed two galleries of Asian art, the first publicly visible step in the Art Museums’ renovation project. The remaining second-floor Asian gallery features a selection of Chinese ceramics from the Tang (618–907) through Qing (1644–1911) dynasties and four recently acquired contemporary Chinese ink paintings. These works illuminate the various avenues explored by four artists who strove to embrace modernism within the framework of the great Chinese ink painting tradition.
