The Agnes Mongan Center for the Study of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs

The Agnes Mongan Center houses the collections, study room, and curatorial offices of the Fogg Art Museum's departments of prints, drawings, and photographs.

Study Room Collections
The Mongan Center Study room provides public access to the museum's collections of prints, drawings, and photographs. Because of the light-sensitive nature of works of art on paper, as well as the very large size of these collections, these objects are rarely displayed in the museum galleries. However, the collections are available to all museum visitors during study room open hours.

The collections comprise approximately 60,000 prints, 13,000 drawings, and 70,500 photographs and negatives by European and American artists.

Highlights of the collections
Rotating exhibitions of prints, drawings, and photographs are held in the Straus Gallery adjacent to the Mongan Center. Prints, drawings, and photographs by Central and Northern European artists are also available in the Busch-Reisinger Museum. Japanese prints are located in the Department of Asian Art in the Arthur M. Sackler Museum.

Hours and Location
The study room is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 2:00 pm to 4:45 pm or by appointment. During the academic year, it may also be open Saturdays from 10 am to 12:45 pm. Contact the study room supervisor before your visit to confirm open hours: mongan@fas.harvard.edu or 617-384-8310. Please note that museum admission, including access to the Mongan Center, is free on Saturdays between 10 and noon.

The Mongan Center study room is located on the ground floor of the Fogg Museum, off the north side of the courtyard.

Classes
The Mongan Center frequently hosts classes but visits must be scheduled well in advance. Please review information about class visits to the Mongan Center before scheduling an appointment with the supervisor.

Resources
The study room provides a small library of reference books and catalogues raisonnés as well as an index to the collections of prints, drawings, and photographs.

The room offers tables and easels for viewing art in natural light, and an intimate setting for research, contemplation, and sketching. Sketching is allowed only from objects that can be framed (i.e., no books or albums), and the only permitted drawing material is graphite. Please allow a few extra minutes for objects to be framed.

Photography of certain objects in the collection is permitted, provided that it is for personal use only and that no flash is used. To obtain images for publication and other purposes, please use the on-line image ordering form. www.artmuseums.harvard.edu/vr
