In Rogi André's summer 1937 photograph of Mondrian in his Paris studio,
the Düsseldorf painting is partly visible on the floor behind a stool.
An enlarged detail shows that the composition is unfinished. The white fields are smudged, and several earlier positions of black lines can still be seen, probably remnants of Mondrian's initial layout of the composition in charcoal. |
