Voices of Youth in Arts and ImaGEs

Cambridge, Massachusetts-The Harvard University Art Museums is pleased to present a new hands-on program for youth ages 10-13: Voices of Youth in Arts and ImaGEs comprises four separate modules of three weekend sessions that are designed to help youth experience the fun of art by exploring the collections in the Fogg, Sackler and Busch-Reisinger Museums and expressing their creativity through art making and theater games. Printmaking: Saturdays, October 17, 24 & 31
2:00-3:30 p.m.
Meet in the lobby of the Arthur M. Sackler Museum, 485 Broadway
Plexi. Paint. Paper. Print. Using your fingers, paintbrushes and other materials, learn how to make a one of a kind artwork called a monotype. Inspiration will be drawn from the exhibition Touchstone: 200 Years of Artists' Lithographs. By the end of the sessions, participants will have created their own prints-including self-portraits, landscapes and abstractions-and a special box to hold them.

Looking at Art: Sundays, November 8, 15 & 22

Meet at the entrance of the Fogg Art Museum, 32 Quincy Street
Go wild, have fun, explore the joys of art! -What makes you think a piece of art is cool? Find out by looking at and talking about artworks at the Harvard Art Museums and by creating your own artworks to take home.

Sculpture & Theater: Sundays, November 8, 15 & 22
2:00-3:30 p.m.
Meet at the entrance of the Fogg Art Museum, 32 Quincy Street
Engage in interactive theater games to learn about, reflect on, and react to the sculptures in the Harvard Art Museums. Participants will take home artworks documenting their activities.

Images of the Hero in Art: Saturdays, December 5, 12 & 19
2:00-3:30 p.m.
Meet in the lobby of the Arthur M. Sackler Museum, 485 Broadway
Who is your hero? Relate various mythological scenes of athletics/action/war throughout history to your experiences with heroes/modern sports images. Discover how people used to tell stories and depict heroes by looking at Greek vases and other story-telling devices. Create your own artworks showing who your heroes are and telling stories about them.

The Harvard University Art Museums comprise three museums (Busch-Reisinger Museum, Fogg Art Museum, Arthur M. Sackler Museum), all located on the Harvard University campus in Cambridge, MA, at the intersection of Quincy Street and Broadway, adjacent to Harvard Yard. The Art Museums are open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Closed holidays. Admission is $5.00; $4.00 for senior citizens; $3.00 for students; free under 18 and to all on Saturday mornings and all day on Wednesdays. For special tour reservations, please call (617) 496-8576. General tours are offered Monday through Friday from September through June; Wednesdays only in July and August.
