This collection of interviews with 26 important and innovative artists of the past two decades-including Chuck Close, Ellsworth Kelly, Nancy Spero, and Mike and Doug Starn-reveals the diversity of materials and techniques these artists employ and their differing attitudes toward the preservation of their work. Stephan Götz, a conservator specializing in modern and contemporary works on paper, contends that the use of both traditional and unconventional materials and techniques in contemporary art poses a great challenge to conservation. As the artists speak with him in their studios, each offers a very personal and subjective view of his or her art. This volume was published by the Center for Conservation and Technical Studies in cooperation with Daco-Verlag Günter Bläse, Stuttgart.
