Harvard University Art Museums’ Online Resources:
- Collections Online: Here you can search for individual works of art by artist, object, technique, culture, and date. In many cases you can also see an image of the work(s) you are researching. About half of HUAM’s collection is catalogued on this site.
- Provenance Research: A report on the Museums' efforts to investigate the ownership histories of works in the collection, with a searchable list of over 5,000 objects from the collection.
- Online Exhibitions, Databases, and Technical Studies: This web page contains links to information pertaining to over a dozen projects conducted by HUAM staff, including online exhibitions (such as Degas at Harvard), research databases, and information about such projects as the conservation of the Sargent murals at the Boston Public Library.
Harvard University-hosted Online Resources:
- VIA: Search Harvard’s Visual Image Access database, which includes information about thousands of artistic and cultural objects at the university; many of HUAM’s objects are cataloged here.
- HOLLIS: Harvard’s online catalog contains summary descriptions of many of HUAM’s collections of archival materials, including artists’ papers and historical records; also cataloged here are the books in the Straus Center for Conservation.
- OASIS: The Online Archival Search Information System is Harvard’s resource for searching the full text of many archival and manuscript finding aids. These detailed listings of the contents of selected collections at Harvard include specific information about the contents of folders or groups of archival materials. HUAM has a small but growing number of finding aids in OASIS.
- HROHRS: The Harvard/Radcliffe Online Historical Reference Shelf includes the full text of the annual reports of the presidents and treasurers of Harvard (1826-1995) and Radcliffe (1879-1988). The full text of many of the museums' Annual Reports appear here; these reports frequently include information regarding exhibitions, acquisitions, and events at the Fogg, Busch-Reisinger and Sackler Museums. The Web site also includes links to resources about Harvard’s history, its founding documents, student publications, and biographical resources.
