Text for "Sargent in the Studio: Drawings, Sketchbooks, and Oil Sketches," 1999: This bold sketch showing the musculature of a horse's chest and legs was tilted slightly for use at the right of "The Fall of Gog and Magog," the oil sketch for which hangs nearby. The Fogg owns a related oil sketch, 1933.155, of "The Fall of Gog and Magog," and a study of bent legs related to the same composition, Fogg drawing 1929.306.
